Why are we serving with Asian Access?

Background Info:
Valerie has had the call to go to Japan on her heart for ten years, but every time she tried to do something about it, something invariably happened to prevent it. Nevertheless, she knew that Japan was where God had called her, and was determined not to let anything get in her way. When she met Peter, she refused to date him for a long time as she didn’t believe that he shared her desire, and was loathe to let a mere boy stop her from going to Japan!
Half-Japanese, Peter had always thought that Japan was out of reach both culturally and linguistically. When his Japanese grandmother died all of that changed. During her time in the hospital, the Japanese pastor from her church spent time with his grandfather, who eventually gave his life to Christ at the age of 90! It was at that point that Peter came to realize that there was hope for the Japanese.
There have been delays in getting to Japan, but along the way God has been doing some amazing things in Valerie and Peter’s hearts and lives, and preparing them in ways that they have only begun to realize.
Ministry Assignment:
Peter & Valerie were accepted in the fall of 2009 as candidates to serve as Church Planting Associates in Japan. They are currently in Toronto, Canada bulding their support development team.
Words of Wisdom...
If you suspect God might be calling you to overseas ministry, ...
- Go on a short-term missions trip. We truly believe that this is one of the best ways of accelerating your spiritual growth as you learn to rely on God in a foreign culture. It also helps to open your eyes to some of the challenges that full-time missionaries face. You will come away with a vastly changed Christian perspective, and a better idea of how God has equipped you for His service.
What lessons have you learned?
God’s timing and preparation are always far better than anything we could possibly design for ourselves. If you feel called to missions, God will confirm that in so many ways it will leave you spinning. We serve a great God. Jesus said, “…in this world you will have trouble, but take courage; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)
