Why am I serving with Asian Access?

The mission and vision of Asian access in countries with a neo-Confucian mindset, and of reaching their insider cultures through training up local, indigenous pastors to lead the way for the church in countries devoid of the influence of Christ struck me. It lined up so well with what I felt God had been telling me to be a part of, and the Church Planting Associates program allowed me to come along side those pastors and be a resource to them and to God’s work in Japan. |
Background Info:
I grew up in Lee’s Summit, MO. At 16, I was saved and knew immediately I wanted to work in full-time ministry. So I attended Calvary Bible College for a B.A. in Advanced Biblical Studies, graduating in 2006. I did part-time ministry all the way through school, and have worked in full-time youth ministry since February 2007. God gave me a heart for Japan all my life, turning to an interest in missions there in 2004. I went to Japan for 9 weeks in summer of ’05, and look forward to being there working again!
Ministry Assignments:
Since 2008, I have been raising support to be a Church Planting Associate in Japan. Currently, I am serving as Assistant Youth Pastor at Lakeland Community Church in Lee's Summit, MO.
Words of Wisdom
Go after it. Don’t let doubts or fears stand in the way. Be willing to move forward because that is where Christ would have you be; but also be patient, as God has his own timing. Be ready to move when he says go, and ready to wait when he says ‘not yet’.
When you are in Japan, be sure to...
Be ready for the Japanese concept of an American. We eat a lot, we can answer any question about the English language, and we couldn’t possibly have any prior knowledge of Japan or the Japanese language. I ran into all 3 of those. Loved the first one, always was served inordinately large amounts of food by any Japanese family I ate with.
Areas of interest about which I'd like to network with others outside of Asian Access?
When I’m in Japan, I look forward to taking some martial arts classes; Kendo, Kyudo, and Judo specifically.
Lessons Learned
My greatest lesson has been the need for patience. I have my timing [which is usually one that always says ‘right now’], and God has his which usually is more like ‘only when now is right’.
Hopes for the Future
To be able to become a key piece of a Japanese church's ministry, helping them reach the Japanese people for Christ.
