Board members talk about Joe Handley
Joe Handley starts work as President of Asian Access on Monday, June 30. As he joins the A2 Community, I thought it would be good to hear from our board members about our new president.
So here are some statements from the Asian Access Board of Directors regarding the selection of Joe Handley as the fourth permanent president of Asian Access:
Ron McMahon
President, McMahon Development Group (San Diego, CA); Chairman of the Board of Directors:
"The
Board of Directors was unanimous. We really like this man that God has
brought to us. One of the key factors for the search committee and the
board was to find a person that had the right chemistry for Asian
Access (that he and his wife Silk would fit well with the staff family)
as well as the capabilities for the role. We feel God has clearly
blessed us with Joe Handley."
Dr. David Bennett
Senior Pastor, Grace Baptist Church (Boston, MA):
"It
has been worth the wait! In Joe Handley God has provided a leader with
a global vision, contagious passion, international experience,
cross-cultural sensitivity, and missiological insight. Joe is a leader
who will appreciate and build on the strengths of our outstanding Asian
Access team, and who will accelerate our progress toward our vision to
see a vibrant community of servant leaders with vision, character and
competence leading the church across Asia. As a board member I am
enthusiastic and eager to welcome him as our new Asian Access
president."
Tom Bradford
President, Bradford and Company (Birmingham, AL):
"As
a board, we were committed to finding the person God had chosen to lead
our organization. After our interview with Joe and Silk, it was
exciting to see how we were unanimous in seeing that Joe was that
person. Together, they bring that wonderful mix of experience,
personality, enthusiasm, and sense of calling that will make them a
perfect fit with the rest of our Asian Access family."
Philip R. Foxwell, Jr.
President, Foxmark International (Tokyo, Japan):
"We
are truly thankful to our Sovereign God for His direction in leading us
to Joe and Silk at this exciting and crucial time in the life of our
mission. Any of us who have spent time with Joe, very quickly felt his
passion for Kingdom endeavors, a clear missional approach in life, and
a warmth and enthusiasm that could only emanate from a love for our
Savior and for the Body of Christ. We are excited about the Handley
family joining with us, bringing their own experience on the mission
field, and confident that Joe will bring an added measure of godly
leadership to the multi-faceted work that God has entrusted to us."
Rev. S. Douglas Birdsall
Executive Chair, Lausanne Committee for World Evangelization (Boston, MA); Former President, Asian Access:
"Joe Handley is a wonderful choice to serve as the new president for our mission. He has outstanding Christian character; he's winsome; he has a great knowledge of world missions, coupled with extensive experience working with university students, with the local church, with mission agencies, and with national leaders in many parts of the world. Joe has an extensive network that I think will bring additional strength to Asian Access.
His enthusiasm and his excitement about Asian Access are contagious.
Joe is the kind of leader who inspires confidence as he casts vision.
Joe indicated his eagerness to involve me as a mentor. Naturally, I will be delighted to be a help to him, just as I am eager to continue to serve with the Board and to serve the Mission wherever possible.
Finally, let me say that it will be a great pleasure to introduce Joe to staff members, to donors, and to mission leaders who are part of the extended Asian Access community.
So, if you want my opinion, it's 'two thumbs up; five stars; home run; out of the park!' Joe's coming to us is additional evidence of God's hand of blessing on the ministry. Many people were working hard on this over the course of the last year. Yet, it is apparent that this must be seen primarily in terms of an answer to God's work and response to our prayers."
