Why are we serving with Asian Access?

In a nutshell, Stu and Hilary were drawn to Asian Access because of its relatively small size and family atmosphere among the mission team. In addition we were impressed by the caliber of the people in the mission and also by a sense of innovation and responsiveness to what God is doing in Asia. We continue to love working within the Asian Access family and would love to see the A2 team in Singapore grow. Any takers? |
Background Info:
Stu and Hilary have been serving with Asian Access since 1989—ministering in Japan and Singapore. The Lynches served in a variety of roles during their 18 years in Japan—language school in the early years; a stint as business manager for the mission for Stu; two terms of helping start churches in northern Japan; and a shift into administration for Asian Access’ leadership training for pastors prior to moving to Singapore in 2008.
Stu and Hilary met in Japan through their work with Asian Access (ask them to tell you the story). God has blessed the Lynch family with three daughters (K, A, and A) and one son (A). All four of the Lynch kids were born in Japan and spent the early years of their lives there. Growing up eating the world’s most delicious rice, all four kids have had trouble adjusting to rice grow in the US or other parts of Asia. Thankfully, Southeast Asia does offer a wide variety of foods from many different countries and ethnic groups, even if the Japanese food there leaves something to be desired.
Ministry Assignment:
The Lynches current ministry focus is on serving and equipping existing Asian Access leadership training ministries for pastors in Southeast Asia, as well as helping to launch new training programs in other Southeast Asian countries. Stu helps equip the leadership team of each regional or national training ministry, train new trainers from the alumni of the program, and help each program move toward indigenization and sustainability.
Our country has been called the ‘Antioch of Asia’ and the church here is one of the world’s leading senders of missionaries relative to its size. Stu is networking with pastors, churches, and ministries here not only to tap into local expertise on the church in Asia, but also to explore where synergistic partnerships may emerge. our nation’s central location in the region and world-class airport enable Stu to easily travel to Asian Access training centers in Southeast Asia and maximize time spent with our training coordinators and their teams. Stu is also involved in leadership and life coaching with a number of mission and church leaders.
Hilary supports Stu in his ministry role by holding down the fort when he’s on the road and being the home schooling teacher for their four kids. In addition, Hilary has a website for home schooling families at http://www.home-school-curriculum-advisor.com/ and does leadership and life coaching with a number of leaders. Hilary also recently completed the first draft of a 365-day devotional guide for youth and teens, and is working on editing it to prepare to submit for publication.
When you're in Singapore, be sure to...
- Spend a bit of time in the Arab Street area—you can ‘travel’ to half a dozen countries within a few square blocks of the city.
- Sample the delicious food found in hundreds of food courts (or hawker centers) located all over the island. Food stalls are rated by cleanliness standards of A, B, or C, and are inspected regularly. And you CAN drink the tap water here, though it doesn’t taste that great unless you filter it.
- Come visit the Lynch family! But give us a few days advance notice to stock up on local goodies and get your room ready ;-)
Hoping for "ultimate contributions"...
To help create a loving community in our home and beyond where people can experience the love of God. To intentionally invest in Asian leaders who are reaching people for the gospel that we could never reach. To come alongside these leaders, ask questions, and really listen. To pray for them, challenge them, encourage them, and confront where needed. Most of all, to be loving friends like Jesus.
Wonderful ministry memories...
Parties which facilitate Christians & non-Christians getting together, cooking classes with discussion times after, play groups for moms with kids with a spiritual content. Hanging out with world-changing leaders, drinking coffee together, chatting about what God is doing in them and through them.
What we've learned here...
Some of the most significant ministry takes place one-on-one. Just loving another person and being available to them is important. Asking a strategic question and then listening—really listening. Being a true friend, but with the intentionality of helping others come to faith, mature as disciples of Jesus Christ, and reproduce themselves—over and over and over again.
