How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity… — Psalm 133
The last two weeks have been powerful as the A2 family came together (first in Japan and then in Singapore). Leaders from twelve nations gathered across these two weeks to learn together, grow together, and strengthen our common bonds as we seek "to see a vibrant community of servant leaders… leading the Church across Asia… who unite the Church, multiply leaders and congregations, and extend the transforming power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ."
The first week, Dr. Duane Elmer joined us to help us grow deeper in servant leadership, in community and in partnership. Dr. Elmer was masterful at leading us in discussions about cross-cultural servanthood and dealing with cross-cultural conflict. He applauded us for our work in partnership saying that the biblical "Barnabas" is a better model for missional service today than other forms of leadership.
He also exhorted us into the powerful truths that as we lead, "there are very few things that are more important than how we live life together" and that "The hardest place to live out our Christianity is in our homes!" How true this is! The better we live in relationship with one another and in our families, the stronger our influence will be!
This week was followed by another great week with A2's national directors where the sense of unity grew even stronger. We shared our lives together, prayed for one another and experienced the power of our common vision: vibrant community!
Dr. Elmer said, "The glory of God is most effectively heard through the unity of His people." as we reflected on John 17:20-23. This is our passion, our desire and our vision for the coming year. If these last two weeks are any indication of the coming year, we are going to have one of the best year's ever in the life of Asian Access.
The picture given from Psalm 133 above where the "dew of Hermon rests on Mount Zion" is so appropriate. Mount Hermon sat in Northern Israel which was separate from the south - Judah when this Psalm was developed. Given that Zion was in Judah, in the South, the image of Mount Hermon and Mount Zion coming together is powerful.
"How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity…"
