What an exciting year 2017 has proven to be. Asian Access celebrated 50 years of ministry, our year of Jubilee. 2017 has been a phenomenal launching pad for the coming year. Thank you for praying for us and for giving. As you think about it and pray about it, please consider giving to our new matching challenge. You know the work that God has in store for us in the coming years in Japan alone is amazing. The leaders there have vision to reach 2% of the population, and...

It’s been an interesting season for me lately and today was another reminder on the journey to rest. One of the devotionals I read is Skye Jethani’s WITH and today’s post was Rest is the Mark of a Free People

Perhaps my journey will help yours.

The Asian Access board recently did a full executive review with me and while I got high marks across the board on nearly every spectrum, they strongly encouraged me to rest. One of our board members stated the following in an email following our meetings: "Thanks for your kind words about the meetings. I do feel strongly that the single biggest factor in the future of the mission is you being able to develop a governor that throttles your speed back by 25%. The ability to say no, because there will always..."

Ajith Fernando, teaching at A2|50th Day 2Day 2 • Homothumadon: "The Way of Unifying Passion"

Here are a few brief, but poignant quotes from Dr. Ajith Fernando's tremendous message:

"A genuine Christian is committed to unity, to teamwork, and to mission."
— Ajith Fernando

"Truth is more important than personal honour. Truth is more important than politics within the Church."

"We are committed to Truth and to God's glory. And we strive for unity."

"One of the principles of a happy marriage is that there are no winners in a battle.

A2 savethedate postcard Pasadena front webAs you may know, 2017 marks our 50th year in ministry. There are many things through the years to fondly remember and thank God for; there are also many new initiatives that the Lord is leading us to pursue in the coming years. And I would like you to set aside an evening on October 21 in Pasadena, California to celebrate this milestone anniversary with me. In Jakarta this past April, we celebrated with our Asian brothers and sisters. We enjoyed a great time of remembering what God has done and envisioning what he has for Asian Access in the future. I have reported on this event on our blog, which you can access here...

Doug & K holding JoeOur capstone day for Asian Access Jubilee in Jakarta focused on the perfect theme: The Future is Now!

Dr Ajith Fernando led us in another in-depth devotional focusing on one of the core components to the fruitfulness of Asian Access. He called it "Spiritual Parenthood" but others may call it mentoring or discipleship. It was a powerful metaphor for me given the history and trajectory of our week. You see, Asian Access holds something unique for an organization. Every leader we’ve had within the movement invests in me as the next generation leader. They stand beside me, behind me and support me along the way...

A2 50th day3 jj 09Discipling Is For Everyone

Using the Father-Son metaphor found in Scripture, here are a few brief, but poignant quotes from Dr. Ajith Fernando's challenging message:

• "The most important thing we do in discipling our people is to pray for them."
• "The balanced life is our cross. So where is the time for discipling? Well, we find time for what is important."
• "Discipling is a battle for the souls of people. That's a battle we wage. We do this through prayer, through confrontation, through teaching, through meeting, and...

Adrian and DougEach day at our Jubilee in Jakarta highlighted a different theme. On Day 1, we focused on our pioneering days, originally as the Language Institute for Evangelism in 1967 and later LIFE Ministries in the mid-1980s, which was focused on Japan. Our theme for Day 1 was aptly titled Pioneering Life. Day 2 took us into a new season in the life of the global church, an era where fresh paradigms were being touted as new ways forward in ministry. Our theme for the day was Expanding Access! It was during this era our name changed from "LIFE Ministries" to "Asian Access" and the day began with a perfect reflection from Dr. Ajith Fernando highlighting the importance of unity. He led us in an in-depth devotion walking through the New Testament with keen attention on the book of Acts showing the importance of staying united in the development, growth and challenges for the...

Dee Wirz's postNot long after our 50th Anniversary Gathering in Jakarta, Jubilee in Jakarta, I received this note from my colleague Dee Wirz:

While the history of what has become Asian Access mission began exclusively in Japan 50 years ago, our outreach has now expanded to eleven countries in Asia. During the A2 Jubilee celebration held in Jakarta recently, I had my first opportunity to get to know many of our extended mission family pictured above. After the presentation of a twelve-minute...

A250th early exec leaders 1989The countdown began, and Asian Access' Jubilee in Jakarta was underway. It was a spectacular beginning with the crowd counting down to the opening session… 10, 9, 8, 7… The international or multi-cultural worship team led by Ian Nagata (lovingly called "Ian and the Multi-Nationals") from Evergreen Church – San Gabriel Valley (near Los Angeles) showcased his new album leading us in worship. Check it out: Where You Go! The morning devotion followed led by Dr. Ajith Fernando, Teaching Director for Youth for Christ – Sri Lanka and world renown bible teacher. He led us on “The Way of Repentance” as key to any movement. He even referenced Bobby Clinton, a key shaper of Asian Access core curriculum, saying it’s more important that we finish well than we start well. And, he mentioned that all the great revivals of Asia started with humility and repentance.
