Asian Access is honored to have one of our very own, Takeshi Takazawa, contribute to a significant new work about leadership called Missing Voices: Learning to Lead Beyond Our Horizons.
I received a pre-released copy of the first chapter where Takeshi offers several important insights from an East Asian perspective about leadership. Having read this chapter alone, I’m eager to get a copy of this book as soon as possible!
To give you a bit of a teaser on some of what Takeshi offers, here’s a taste for which I’m sure you’ll be eager to experience more:
“We are constantly aware of who is ahead and who is behind…
We are highly communal cultures. Therefore, leadership is never about one person; it always includes followers. Followers create leaders. Leadership and followership are two side of the same coin. They are held together in community. We are all followers. There are generations before us that we follow. This is not about blindly following the past but a conscious awareness of those before us. We have a deep respect for them and a strong sense that we are building on their work and have much to learn from them…
Leadership cannot be isolated apart from the group.”
At Asian Access we say, “We LIVE Community.” – That means one of our highest core values, next to being “ALL IN with God” is this communal practice. This is very biblical: just look at the Old and New Testaments and how much they highlight life together. We are the Body of Christ.
Takeshi so aptly captures this essence in this book about leadership. I encourage you to get a copy of the book (linked here) and enjoy more of Takeshi’s insights. Plus, there is a whole lot more – voices and perspectives that have been Missing and need to be heard. Much like our own efforts with https://easternvoices.org/
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses… Hebrews 12:1 builds on this profound idea. Read chapter 11 to get a better feel for what Takeshi is talking about!
