Have you ever had one of those seasons where nothing seems to be working? Or, you realize most everything is out of your control?
Oftentimes, I feel fairly confident and optimistic about life and ministry but this past year a number of things seemed to be clearly out of my control. And, ultimately, the reality is that we really don’t have control.
I was sharing some of these challenges with one of our faculty members and key ministry coaches last month, Mike Hoisington. Mike quickly shared this powerful wisdom:
“I can’t. He can. I think I’ll let Him!”
This is so true. The truth is most of life, work and ministry we have very little control over. And, you never know if things will prove successful or an utter disaster. I’ve been around long enough to know that life is filled with each of these: the good, the bad and the ugly.
The sooner we can come to grips with that and turn our dependence on Jesus, the better. Why? Because ultimately, “I can’t.” and “He can.” The bible tells us that we can do “all things through Christ who strengthens me.” – Phil. 4:13, no matter what state we are in. The key is “Christ who strengthens me.” We also know that He can do “immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine.” – Eph. 3:20.
So, while I can’t, He can! When I submit or surrender to Jesus, he can do amazing things. So, I’m following my friend Mike’s wisdom: “I can’t. He can. I think I’ll let Him!”
