Well done, good and faithful servant.
You have been faithful over a little;
I will set you over much.
Enter into the joy of your master.

It is with a heavy heart that I share that my friend and Asian Access emeritus board chairman passed away last week. While we know Ron is in a much better place, it still saddens us this side of heaven. I met Ron a little over 14 years ago when he interviewed me in Irvine, CA as a candidate to serve as president for Asian Access.

Ron McMahon and A2 Board

The synergy from the very beginning was clear. I could tell that this was a man of great wisdom, strength of character, and warm heart. Just a few hours together and I sensed his welcome to the Asian Access family, even though we still needed to walk through the process of getting to know the senior staff and interviewing with the board. I’m so glad the board took a risk on me for this post and that Silk and I had the faith to step into the unknown.

Ron’s steady hand as chair and winsomeness in leading the board provided the wind beneath my wings to take flight and soar. For decades, his character and friendship were key to Asian Access’ fruitfulness. And, his encouragement and generosity were core to his leadership. Ron was deeply committed to Jesus, wanted to see Japan reached for Christ, and had a heart to develop leaders for the global Church that was unsurpassed.

As we reflect on his life, a few current and former board member’s shared their appreciation and memories:

"At my first meeting of the board, I was struck immediately with Ron's warmth to all, including me... such a gracious man, full of strength and vision for the ministry in Japan and beyond. In that meeting, I remember that there was a serious matter before the board that could have become quite contentious. I don't remember the specifics, but I do remember the prudent and thoughtful manner of Ron's leadership, combined with a positive, we-will-get-through-this spirit.

Maureen too made me feel like such an integral part of the ministry. I remember being in their home once early in my tenure on the board, where Maureen's buoyancy and warmth welcomed me into the mission family and made me feel as if I was on a joyful journey into Japan and Asia—which of course, I was."

ron and doug web"We were blessed to have had him as a friend and colleague, and as the chairman of our board for more than twenty years. He served on the board with all four presidents - Ken, Doug, Steve and Joe. I know that all of us found him to be a man of wisdom, strength, fairness, firmness, good humor, dependability, high standards of excellence, resourcefulness, elegance, and humility.

He was indeed a man after God's own heart."

While we miss our friend this side of eternity, we do know Ron is in a better place. He is watching us from the heavens, delighted with the progress the mission he so ably shepherded.
