SIX COMMON THEMES FOR A TRINITARIAN APPROACH TO LEADING MISSIONS

Polycentric—Why? And, what’s that?¹

As the world grapples with ongoing tensions, polarities, and ever-growing challenges, I am convinced that we need a new approach to leadership. It was this concern that compelled me to study global leadership and see if another form of leadership could prove pivotal to the world in which we lead for this era of God’s mission.

Words that have impacted my life and leadership

1. “START AT THE TOP AND WORK YOUR WAY DOWN. THEY MIGHT SAY 'NO' BUT THEY COULD SAY 'YES'."

Dr. Robert Clinton, a former professor of leadership at Fuller Seminary had five principles of mentoring. His first principle; it is the mentee’s responsibility to find a mentor. This could be interpreted as the principle of attraction.

Have you ever had one of those seasons where nothing seems to be working? Or, you realize most everything is out of your control? Oftentimes, I feel fairly confident and optimistic about life and ministry but this past year a number of things seemed to be clearly out of my control. And, ultimately, the reality is that we really don’t have control. I was sharing some of these challenges with one of our faculty members and key ministry coaches last month, Mike Hoisington. Have you ever failed at something? I have. Many times! I believe a key part of life and leadership is navigating, walking through and bouncing back from failure.
