  • Leaders' Marriages – A Priority of Highest Order

    weddinghands drew coffman llWjwo200fo unsplash 640pxAll of life is a learning experience. Throughout the course of my life, I have participated in learning experiences that have been of a formal, non-formal, and informal nature. Some of my best learning opportunities have occurred in the less intentional informal moments in the school of life. In these experiences, learning has taken place through observing people who unexpectedly created a teachable moment for me in the high calling of married life...

  • Domestic violence cases increase around the world

    International (MNN) — False worldviews in South Asia about men and women lead to increased domestic violence as billions are confined to their homes by COVID-19. Adrian DeVisser, the Vice President for Partnership Development at Asian Access, says ugly views towards women already exist, but the isolation is compounding the issue. In the cultural context of South Asia, which is informed by Hinduism, Buddhism, and Islam, De Visser says, “[People] believe that man is [like a] god, and the wife happens to be not a god. For instance, a lady in Asian contexts sometimes find it difficult to call her husband by name. She will call him by the name of the child and say,...

    "In this country, everything is kept secret. No one shares openly. But, this week at A2 has been different. I’ve been surprised at how open everyone is, sharing about everything they are going through. This is so powerful, I want my husband to attend again!"

    Recently Silk and I had the privilege of teaching for our "Marriage and Family" module in a South Asian Buddhist country that we cannot name for security reasons. In fact, it’s a country we just launched last year. At the week-long session, we met Darwa, the wife of an Asian Access participant in that country. She was attending the A2 session along with all the other spouses and kids of the current participants. But Darwa piqued my interest when she declared, "I had no idea how good this was!"...{addthis off}

  • Marriage and Family Module, Part 1

    What a joy it was for Silk and me to teach together for the first time on Marriage and Family. We were joined by our teammates Christy Rajender and Jeyakaran Emmanuel from India serving with them in this remote Himalayan Kingdom. We had a great time playing games, spending time with the families and digging into God’s word helping couples grow closer together and become better husbands, wives and parents. Many shared how impactful the week was for them and their marriage. Some had said they had been through the bible passages and special material before but they found this module particularly challenging. Why? Because we actually dug in deep and discussed the Word together, sharing how these principles and values work out in... {addthis off}

  • Please take my husband again for the next cohort of Asian Access!

    "I had no idea how good this was! "

    Silk and I recently had the privilege of teaching for our Marriage and Family Module in a South Asian country that we cannot name. Pictured here (with a blurred face) is one of the wives who was surprised by the benefit of Asian Access. She said she was skeptical about coming for this week and even wasn’t sure the program was all that important for her husband, who pastors a church in their country and leads a network of ministries and churches...

  • Delightful couple shares about their transformation

    burmese couple screenshotDuring our recent graduation week in Myanmar, we were at a special dinner one evening and one of the participants burst out in appreciation for Asian Access. She was so exuberant that you would’ve thought Asian Access was Jesus himself! I asked her, can we have you share on video and she not only said “Yes” enthusiastically but suggested her husband, who I later learned was on the local Myanmar Working Team, should join her. Wow, what a powerful couple and amazing testimony. You won’t want to miss it! It’s five minutes but boy is it worth it. You’ll catch their enthusiasm in this video but I must confess, they are even more crazy powerful in person....

    There are four categories covered:

    1. Developing the Leader
    2. Reproducing Other Leaders
    3. Multiplying Churches
    4. Expanding the Kingdom...
  • I cherish A2. It helped to save my marriage.

    cherishA2 inset 200x125"Joe, I cherish Asian Access. It helped to save my marriage." — Spouse of an A2 participant

    The woman speaking these words is the wife of a key national leader in a country, which, for security reasons, I can’t identify. I have had the privilege of knowing “Linda” (not her real name) and her husband for many years. While I was of course very grateful for her affirmation, I wanted to know more. “Linda, what has made Asian Access so precious to you?" She answered, "Asian Access has influenced so many of the key leaders in our country. It is amazing how your program can change so many when you start with so few. Of all of the ministries I’ve seen over the last 20 years, Asian Access is the one that stands out..." #givingtuesday

He suggested during our track on Marriage and Family that Marital Health leads to Pastoral Health and you can guess where to take it from there...
